in the roman forum - which is the ancient heart of rome, right near the colosseum

outside, you guessed it -colosseum again

me being thoughtful outside the colosseum after the tour. Also we found out why doors open inwards - because the Romans taxed everything (so governments have been doing that for a while!) and if your front door opened outwards, onto the street (which was public ie government property) you had to pay more tax for "using" their land.

more colosseum............

the colosseum - as it is (background) and as it was (foreground). I didn't know they used to have water games in here too! They removed the wood floor and flooded the place. Also in summer time they erected a cover so people didn't get too hot - not bad for something 2000 years old!

glen at the colosseum - this was our first major touristy thing, which we happened upon spontaneously by wondering the streets.

overlooking the ancient roman forum (I think!)
